Gas Distribution

The challenge:

Verbundnetz Gas AG (VNG) based in Leipzig, Germany was in previous years the exclusive supplier of Russian gas to the former German Democratic Republic. Today, the company is a privatized gas trading, transmission and distribution company with a 7298 km long pipeline network extending all over eastern Germany. The company has a 16% share of the German gas market. Most of its pipeline infrastructure is running through scarcely populated areas.

The solution:

VNG has implemented a TSAT network with redundant HUBs and more than 60 remote stations. The ABB Spider SCADA application is running the RP570 protocol via multi-drop connectivity at 2400bps.

With the deployed solution, VNG is able to operate the pipeline more efficiently without compromising safety, and at reduced cost.
