Power Generation

The challenge:

Fortum Generation, a division of the Finnish Fortum energy group is operating more than 160 hydro-power facilities and wind farms across Sweden and Finland, generating more than 49TWh annually. The energy markets in the Nordic region have been deregulated, so having a unified and efficient communication technology infrastructure that enables Fortum to instantly respond to supply and demand is giving Fortum a competitive advantage in the market place.

The solution:

The company implemented a fully redundant TSAT network that is supporting legacy RTU hardware operating with different communication protocols. Today more than 160 terminals have been deployed, including a new wave generation facility on Sweden’s west coast.

The benefit:

Fortum Generation is now able to improve their bottom line by keeping production in line with demand.
